Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and small/large group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; with staff, volunteers, visitors wearing masks and protective eyewear, following the CDC Guidelines.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with their loved ones with scheduled visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service, and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Dennis Miller or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during this past five weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past five weeks.

“Games” were available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” or “Small Group” were held for/with the residents/tenants (at the MVCC/SVAL) during the past five weeks, as able.

“Manicures” was available for/with the residents/tenants (at the MVCC/SVAL) during the afternoon on five Fridays.

“Remembrance Day” of the residents/tenants (28), who passed away during this past year (November 1, 2020, to November 1, 2021) but are still “alive” in our memories, was held during the afternoon on Monday.

Jason & Carrie Rowan (K-9 Comfort in Bellevue, Iowa) for the Gift Basket from K-9 Comfort.  The Gift Basket was used in a Gift Drawing to help recognize the “Staff with Pets” as a “Pet Appreciation” activity during the afternoon on Tuesday.  Congratulations to the Drawing Winner, Jill Herrig (staff).

Marquette Catholic High School and teacher Andy Bishop (Math & English Teacher, Grades 9-12) with students: Kory & Josie Kintzle, Aidan Clausen, Isaac Brinker, and Kannon Still for hosting a “Make A Difference Day”, by raking up the fallen leaves and cleaning the outside windows of the MVCC during the midmorning on Thursday.

Tokens of appreciation (a Veteran’s Day Heart Card, USA Flag, Patriotic Cake, Beverage, Patriotic Handkerchief, and Patriotic Poster/Certificate) were presented to each of our veterans with during the afternoon on Wednesday.  This was part of our “Honoring Our Veteran Heroes” and posting a lighted “Veteran Honor Wall Showcase”.

Volunteers of the Bellevue American Legion Post #273 Revere Color Guard:  Larry Lampe, Roger Michels, Richard Weinshenk, John Gebheart, Dale Ernst, Chuck Kueter, Mike Pitts, Maurice Anderson, Jim Kilburg, Rob Roben, Gary Kilburg, Dick Zeimet, and John Pitlo, and the American Legion Auxiliary Ladies:  Linda Shekler, Daphne Rirchie, Rita Reuss, Maryetta Lampe, and Vivian Pitlo for presenting their Veteran’s Program with singing and meeting with our own veterans:  Dale Grewe, Dale Banowetz, Allen Kilburg, Richard Helbing, James Cloos, and H.P. from the MVCC/SVAL during the morning on Friday.  Volunteers Vivian Pitlo and Maryetta Lampe from the American Legion Auxiliary Ladies for their assistance during this event.  Each member of the Color Guard was presented with a Patriotic Handkerchief and a crafted Thank You note, as a token of appreciation for their military service; the gifts were assembled by the residents (at the MVCC) on Wednesday.  (In Honor of our Veterans, with Respect, Honor and Gratitude, we thank all the veterans, service men and women for their service in preserving our freedoms 24/7.  May God Bless you & May Bless God America.)  Thanks again to Vivian & John Pitlo (volunteers) for their assistance during this event.  Theresa Schwager (staff) and all involved staff for their assistance in Activities during this event on Monday.

“Treats with Dietary” was served with the residents and tenants followed by some tokens given to Maintenance as a recognition/celebration this week during the afternoon on Monday.

“Alzheimer’s Awareness Month” discussions and memories were held with the residents during the afternoon on Thursday.

“Family Caregivers Month with tokens of Appreciation” was held for/with the residents during the afternoon on Monday.

“Hospice Month with tokens of Appreciation” was held with the residents during the afternoon on Monday.

“Evening Music Box” was held for/with the residents during the evening-time (at the MVCC) with Joy M. (staff).

The Dietary staff for providing/serving a French meal, featuring “Beef Stew, French Bread, and Cream Puffs” for the residents/tenants (to help them experience some French culinary dishes and culture) accompanied by French Music playing in the background during the noontime on Tuesday.  This was followed by a “Travel Tour of France” video Activity held with the residents during the afternoon on Tuesday.  These were part of a “Worldly Foods” Activity focusing on France.

The Dietary staff for providing/serving a German meal, featuring “Polish Sausage with Sauerkraut, German Potato Salad, and Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel with frosting served with a frosty mug of Root Beer” for the residents/tenants (to help them experience some German culinary dishes and culture) accompanied by German Music playing in the background during the noontime on Tuesday.  This was followed by a “Travel Tour of Germany” video Activity held with the residents during the afternoon on Tuesday.  These were part of a “Worldly Foods” Activity focusing on Germany.

The Dietary staff for providing/serving a Mexican meal featuring “Hard Shell Taco, Lettuce, Tomato, Sour Cream, Refried Beans, Mexican Rice, and Churro” for the residents/tenants (to help them experience some Mexican culinary dishes and culture) accompanied by Mexican Music playing in the background during the noontime on Tuesday.  This was followed by a contest for “Breaking of the Mexican Pinata” by the residents during the noontime (on Tuesday).  Congratulations to Gary Said (resident), the winner who broke the multi-colored Pinata and released the enclosed candy.  Thanks to Jill Huling and Karen Parramore (Dietary staff) for their donations of the Mexican Pinata and the candy for the residents to enjoy.  This was followed by a “Travel Tour of Mexico” video Activity held with the residents during the afternoon (on Tuesday).  These were part of a “Worldly Foods” Activity focusing on Mexico.

The “Cumberland-Anita-Massena (CAM) and Easton Valley (Preston, Iowa) High School State Tournament” 8-Player State Championship Football on “ALL LIVE” Iowa High School State Championship on TV was available/shown to the residents during the morning on Thursday.  [CAM (12-0) defeated Easton Valley (12-0) with a (42-40) score for the state title game at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  CAM finished the season a perfect (13-0) and captured the program’s first ever state football crown.  The die-hard Easton Valley resident/tenant fans were saddened by the final results, but proud of the Easton Valley Team and all their accomplishments.]
