Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and very small group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; following the CDC Guidelines, with staff, visitors and volunteers wearing masks and protective eyewear.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past four weeks.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” and/or “Small Group” activities were held with the residents (individualized at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the past four weeks, as able.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service, and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Robert Gross or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the past four weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Ashley Stroyan (RN, Nurse Manager at the SVAL), Kayla Griebel and Mary Jo Konrardy (staff, volunteers) at the SVAL for their assistance during the past four weeks and weekends, and for their efforts in crafting the Hawaiian Luau celebration, along with other involved staff who helped make the Luau event possible: Patty Reynolds (Administrator), Pam Reedy (Administrative Assistant), Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor), Joy Marchiando (Recreation Program Director), and other involved unnamed staff, tenants, families and volunteers.  The Hawaiian Luau Luncheon was celebrated on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:00 am., featuring a menu of: Hawaiian Chicken Kebobs, Roasted Baby Potatoes, Hawaiian Coleslaw, Hawaiian Bread, and Hawaiian Poke Cake.  Hawaiian Luau Activities followed after the luncheon, refreshments in a party coconut and goodies were served, Hawaiian shirts and blouses with Hawaiian Flowery Leis & headbands were adorned, and hula dancing was demonstrated.  Hawaiian decorations included two electric Palm trees [courtesy of Kathy Dunn (volunteer)], live gold fish swimming in fishbowl centerpieces were placed on the dining tables, table decorations and a Hawaiian photo shoot.  Tenants had a full afternoon of activity, which brought (and will bring) some wonderful memories; good times were shared among the tenants and their families.  The Bellevue community shared in the “fun” by loaning to us their Hawaiian items (and sharing their Hawaiian experiences with us) for the tenants’ Hawaiian event.  All this activity help to make a difference in the lives of our tenants.

Steve & Cathy Tebbe (Whispering Meadows Resort & River Ridge ATV Trails, Spragueville, Iowa) (volunteers) for driving their tractor and allowing us the use of their covered red wagon for the MVCC/SVAL Heritage Days Celebration Parade Float during the Bellevue Heritage Days Celebration Parade.  Volunteers: Lily Reynolds with Patty (Administrator) & Jeff Reynolds, and Paisley Miller with Pam Reedy (Administrator Assistant) for “manning the Float” and distributing treats/goodies throughout the Heritage Days Parade Route during the midmorning on Sunday (July 3, 2022).

Brianna Budde (Executive Director, Bellevue Iowa Chamber of Commerce) for videotaping the Bellevue Heritage Days Celebration Parade (July 3, 2022) for the Bellevue area “shut-ins”, i.e., individuals in this community who were unable to attend (or see) the Heritage Days Celebration Parade event on Sunday.  (Brianna offered to make available the 2022 Heritage Days Parade video to us, so that our residents and tenants will be able to view it and “become a part of” this fantastic parade and community.)

Chef Kevin Hebert (Executive Chef from Healthcare of Iowa – with a background in fine dining and private Chef for 44 years) for visiting the MVCC and hosting a live cooking demonstration (activity) in front of an involved audience of residents, tenants, family members, staff, and volunteers during the afternoon on Tuesday.  [Chef Kevin’s food preparation involved “Roasted Chicken Bacon Ranch Wanton Cup”, Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato (BLT) Bruschetta, and Fried Ice Cream”.]  Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and Karen Parramore (Dietary staff), Nursing Department staff, Theresa Schwager (Environmental Services Supervisor), Joy Marchiando (Recreation Program Director), Patty Reynolds (Administrator), and all of the involved unnamed staff for all their assistance in making this event possible.  Thanks also to our participating guests and volunteers: Peggy Althaus, Mary Sieverding, Donna Sieverding, Eunice Schladetzky, Karen Osar, anonymous, etc., for joining in the fun.  (This cooking event with Chef Kevin fits into an activity category of “Community Involvement”, a project focusing on “Community Education” – involving and educating the residents and tenants.)
