Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and very small group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; following the CDC Guidelines, with staff, visitors and volunteers wearing masks and protective eyewear.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service (with “temporary” Pastor John Armstrong) and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Dennis Miller or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the past four weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during this past week.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” and/or “Small Group” activities were held with the residents (individualized at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the past four weeks, as able.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday.

Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting “Music with Ray & Doris,” providing musical entertainment for/with the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC) during the noontime on four Fridays.

We celebrate and remember the brave servicemen and servicewomen who died defending our country this Memorial Day, May 30, 2022.  (We celebrate our freedoms and never forget that that very freedom came at the expense of the brave heroes who lost their lives fighting to protect it.)

Rose Knoebel (volunteer, Republican) & Rose Schwager (volunteer, Democrat) from the Jackson County Auditor's Office (Maquoketa, Iowa) for arriving and helping for the residents (at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) to vote absentee in the 2022 Primary Election.

Rose Franzen (RN, Hospice of Jackson County) and Rae Ann Thede (Director, Hospice of Jackson County) for hosting their presentation on “What hospice is.” and “How hospice works.” during the afternoon on Tuesday with the residents, tenants, and staff.  (Rose and Rae Ann provided booklets, handouts, pens, helpful choices in considering comfort care, and exactly how “Hospice works together with your family, privately, or with a health care facility”; all working together toward a unified goal of betterment comfort care for the individual.)

Chef Kevin Herbert (Executive Chef from Healthcare of Iowa – with a background in fine dining and private Chef for 44 years) for visiting the MVCC and hosting a live cooking demonstration (activity) in front of an involved audience of residents, tenants, family members, staff, and volunteers during the afternoon on Tuesday.  (Chef Kevin’s food preparation involved “Fresh Mango Salsa with Tortilla Chips, Flatbread Margarita Pizza with Balsamic Glaze, and Cream Cheese Lemonade Blackberry Crepes with Vanilla Ice Cream”.)  Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and Karen Parramore (Dietary staff), Nursing, Theresa Schwager (Environmental Services Supervisor), Joy Marchiando (Recreation Program Director), and all involved staff, and to Patty Reynolds (Administrator) for all their assistance in making this event possible.  (This cooking event with Chef Kevin fits into an activity category of “Community Involvement”, a project focusing on “Community Education” – involving and educating the residents and tenants.)
