Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and very small group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; following the CDC Guidelines, with staff, visitors and volunteers wearing masks and protective eyewear.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service (with “temporary” Pastor John Armstrong) and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Dennis Miller or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the past five weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past five weeks.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” and/or “Small Group” activities were held with the residents (individualized at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the past five weeks, as able.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting “Music with Ray & Doris,” providing musical entertainment for/with the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC) during the noontime on five Fridays.

Donna Sieverding (volunteer) for hosting a new card game called “31” with the tenants (at the SVAL) on Sunday.

Karen Osar (volunteer) for hosting the “Sequence” games with the tenants (at the SVAL) during the midmorning on four Mondays.

“Laundry & Linen Appreciation Day” was celebrated in appreciation of the Housekeeping and Laundry staff during the Monday afternoon.

Chef Kevin Herbert (Executive Chef from Healthcare of Iowa – with a background in fine dining and private Chef for 44 years) for visiting the MVCC and hosting a live cooking demonstration (activity) in front of an involved audience of residents, tenants, family members, staff, and volunteers during the afternoon on Wednesday.  (Chef Kevin’s food preparation involved:  Caesar BLT tortilla rollups, Puff pastry Chicken Cordon Bleu cups, and Cherry Cheesecake Dessert Tacos with Punch or water served as a beverage.)  Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and the Dietary Department, Nursing Department, all involved staff, and to Patty Reynolds (Administrator) for all their assistance in making this event possible.  Linda Kueter, Sharon Kueter, and Nancy Hingtgen (volunteers) for their assistance in this event; and to Gina Hintgten (volunteer) for her assistance.  (This cooking event with Chef Kevin fits into an activity category of “Community Involvement”, a project focusing on “Community Education” – involving and educating the residents and tenants.)

National Nurses Week (May 6-12) Appreciation Day was celebrated with special handcrafted Nurse’s cup given to all our nurses.

Thanks to all the nurses (ours included) for their 24/7 dedication, patience, nurturing, and good health care service for our residents, tenants, staff, and others.

National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) (May 8-14, 2022) (aka, National Nursing Home Week) with the theme of” “Creating & Nurturing Connections” was celebrated via the various activities/events scheduled throughout the week.  The residents, tenants and staff were welcomed to participate.  Patty Reynolds (Administrator) and staff: Jill Herrig, Fariza Espiridon, Susan Eversole, Jill Huling, Juanita Bielenberg, Kayla Griebel, MaryJo Konrardy, Joy Marchiando, and all involved staff and departments, for their participation during this entire week in Activities and for making these events possible.

Juanita Bielenberg (RN, Director of Nursing, volunteer) for celebrating NSNCW with bringing her “Kune-Kune Pig” (an eight-week-old male pig named “Rigley”) for the residents/tenants/staff to interact (Pet Therapy), to help nurture a pleasant diversion/reminiscing into the lives of our residents/tenants/staff during the early morning on Tuesday.

Hospice of Jackson County for their food treats/goodies in thanks and appreciation for our Nursing staff, and in recognition of National Nurses Day (May 6, 2022) and National Nurses Week (May 6-12, 2022).

Kelly O’Donnell (Occupational Therapist), Missy Wilson (Physical Therapist) and Kelly Pancrate (Speech Therapist) for their informative presentations/discussions, hosting question and answering sessions given for/with the residents during the afternoon on Tuesday, in honor of “Physical, Occupational, & Speech Therapy Appreciation Day”.
