Phyllis M. Schwager
Phyllis Maxine (Kueter) Schwager was born in rural Bellevue around St. Donatus, Iowa. She shared early home life with eight siblings: Thomas, Gloria Medinger, Joseph, Martha Rheingans, Dennis, Darla Sturm (deceased), Susan Griebel, and Mary Kilburg (deceased). She met Wilfred Schwager (a U.S. Army Veteran, 1952-1954), and they married on October 20, 1954. Together they had eight children: Francis, Bruce, Phillip, Gregory, Rose Waber, Lynn, Neal, and Margo Jebe. After more than 60 years of marriage, he passed away on February 1, 2015. She has 26 grandchildren, and growing (8+) great-grandchildren.
Her life is and has been very active both inside and outside her home in Bellevue. She received her Registered Nurse (RN) Degree at the School of Nursing at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked as an RN for 21 years at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC). She is a retired Registered Nurse. Her activities have included volunteering at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church events/programs/tasks, St. Joseph’s Lunch Program, American Legion Auxiliary Ladies, Meals-on-Wheels – driving her own car, Ambulatory Services, MVCC Bingo and fund raisers, etc. She has traveled between the states visiting her children in Tennessee, Oklahoma, and California, and was even on a Ship Cruise to the Bahamas.
