Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and very small group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; following the CDC Guidelines, with staff, visitors and volunteers wearing masks and protective eyewear.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Robert Gross or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during this past week and on Sunday.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sunday.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

Individualized “Exercises & Reminisce” and Individualized “Card Games” were available with the residents (at the MVCC) during the midmorning on Tuesday.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past five weeks.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” and/or “Small Group” activities were held with the residents (individualized at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the past five weeks, as able.

Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting “Music with Ray & Doris”, providing musical entertainment for/with the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC) during the noontime on five Fridays.

Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting “Music with Ray & Doris”, providing musical entertainment for/with the tenants (at the SVAL) and then for/with the residents (at the MVCC) during the evening-time on three Sundays, two Mondays, and one Wednesday.

Ashley Stroyan (RN, Nurse Manager at the SVAL), Kayla Griebel and Mary Jo Konrardy (staff, volunteers) at the SVAL for their assistance in Activities during the past five weeks and weekends.

Marlyce Tebbe (tenant, volunteer) for hosting and reciting the “Rosary prayers” held at the SVAL for the Catholics on five Sundays.

Karen Osar (volunteer) for hosting available “Sequence” games with the tenants (at the SVAL) during midmorning on five Mondays.

Chef Kevin Hebert (Executive Chef from Healthcare of Iowa – with a background in fine dining and private Chef for 44 years) for visiting the MVCC and hosting a live cooking demonstration (activity) in front of an involved audience of residents, tenants, family members, staff, and volunteers during the afternoon on Tuesday.  Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and Karen Parramore (Dietary staff), Nursing Department staff, Theresa Schwager (Environmental Services Supervisor), Joy Marchiando (Recreation Program Director), Patty Reynolds (Administrator), and all of the involved unnamed staff for all their assistance in making this event possible.  Thanks also to our participating guests and volunteers: Peggy Althaus, Mary Sieverding, Donna Sieverding, Glen Banowetz, Karen Osar, anonymous, etc., for joining in the fun.  (This cooking event with Chef Kevin fits into an activity category of “Community Involvement”, a project focusing on “Community Education” – involving and educating the residents and tenants.)

Richard “Chuck” Wolf, Jr. (volunteer and special guest speaker) for hosting a talk on “Antiques” during our “Fair Days” related activities held at the SVAL.  [The presentation included topics, such as, “How does one get started, and what to look for when shopping for antiques.”; some “Tricks of the Trade:  How does one go about looking for good antique pieces and their factory markings under the plate or cup, etc.  How does one know that they have selected a good vintage antique piece that will be valuable or become more valuable with time in/for their own antique collection.  What are the signs or markings on valuable antique pieces.”  All these questions and more were answered to the delight of the tenants, residents, and volunteer staff.  Richard brought out several Antique pieces from his own personal Vintage Antique Collection, in order to show and inform what these objects/signs were used for, etc.  What informative fun the attending tenants, residents, and volunteer staff had during the afternoon on Tuesday.  Thanks again to Richard Wolf, Jr. and to Mrs. Julia Furne for her assistance in making this event possible for the tenants, residents, and staff.]

Gross (Pastor, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bellevue, Iowa) for hosting the Catholic Mass and Communion Service (at the MVCC) during the midmorning on Wednesday.  Thanks to Jr. & Laura Steines, Judy Moran, and Maryetta Lampe (volunteers) for assisting with reciting the Rosary prayers.  Laura Steines (volunteer) for assisting the distribution of Communion to the residents (at the MVCC).

Caleb Cain (volunteer) for providing 50 ears of sweetcorn for the residents and tenants during the midmorning on Thursday.  Caleb joined the residents with staff in “shucking” the corn for the meal of the day.  Special Thanks to Caleb Cain and his parents [Marceline & Dale Cain (Delmar, Iowa)] for providing the beautiful 50 ears of fresh & clean sweet corn without blemish.  Thanks also to Caleb’s proud Grandparents [Janice K.
