Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Residents/tenants, and their families/friends are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Thanks to all the families/friends of the residents/tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families/friends during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and small group Activities with the residents/tenants and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; with staff, volunteers, and visitors wearing masks and protective eyewear, following the CDC Guidelines.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past five weeks.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” or “Small Group” were held with the residents (at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the past five weeks, as able.

“Manicures” was available with the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC) during the afternoon on five Fridays.

Individualized in-room visits (or monthly visits) scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service, and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Service (with Pastor Dennis Miller or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the past five weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Church Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting “Music with Ray & Doris”, providing musical entertainment for/with the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC) during the noontime on four Fridays.

Ray & Doris Theisen for hosting “Music with Ray and Doris”, providing musical entertainment for/with the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC) during the evening-time on three Sundays and three Tuesdays.

David Eischeid (volunteer, art instructor) for visiting and hosting “Artwork with David” (an artwork class) during the morning on Thursday and helping our small group of resident art students unlock their art talents.

Jr. Steines (volunteer) for hosting the “Euchre Club” at the SVAL during the afternoon on three Mondays.

Maryetta Lampe (volunteer) for hosting “Bingo Games” held with the tenants (at the SVAL) during the afternoon on Tuesday with Joy M. (staff).

Pat Roling (volunteer) and Vincent S. (tenant, volunteer) for hosting “Bingo Games” held with the tenants (at the SVAL) during the afternoon on Tuesday.

Molly Ploessl and Mary Kubik (volunteers) with an Anonymous volunteer for hosting “Bingo Games” held with the tenants (at the SVAL) during the afternoon on Tuesday.

Clara Ernst, Janis Kilburg, and Beverly Sullivan (volunteers) for hosting the “Bingo games with the Catholic Ladies” with a “Ice Cream Treat” were held for/with the residents during the afternoon on Wednesday.

Karen Osar and Diane Dempewolf (volunteers) for hosting the “Bingo games with the Lutheran Ladies” with an “Ice Cream Treat” held for/with the residents during the afternoon on Wednesday.

Richard Helbing (resident, volunteer) for hosting “Cards with Coffee” with the residents (at the MVCC) during the afternoon on two Fridays.

Vincent S. (tenant, volunteer) for hosting the game of “Dominoes” at the SVAL during the afternoon on three Mondays, five Tuesdays, and five Thursdays.

Mary Jo Konrardy and/or Kayla Griebel (staff, volunteers) at the SVAL for their assistance during the past five weeks and weekends.

The Dietary staff for providing/serving an American meal, featuring “Cheeseburger, Tomato/Lettuce, French Fries, Corn, and Pumpkin Pie” for the residents/tenants (to help them experience some American culinary dishes and culture) accompanied by selections of American Music (from different parts of the country, e.g., Cajun, jazz, blues, bluegrass, country-western, classical, etc.,) playing in the background during noontime on Tuesday.  This was part of a “Worldly Foods Activity focusing on the U.S.A.

David Ambrosy (Associate Pastor, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bellevue, Iowa) for hosting the Catholic Mass and Communion Service (at the SVAL) during the midmorning on Wednesday.  Laura & Jr. Steines (volunteers) for assisting with reciting the Rosary prayers.  Laura Steines (volunteer) for assisting the distribution of Communion to the tenants (at the SVAL) and the residents (at the MVCC).  Rev. Mrs. Tracy Weber (FBLA advisor at the Bellevue Community High School) with students:  Alexandria Caughron, Alexis McCombie, Taylor DeWitt, Elyse Berendes, Aunika Hager, Alivia Wagner, Cate Dunne, Kendelle Scheckel, Alyssa Wagner, Tayla Leibfried, Olivia Carter, Adyson Ellingson, Rayna Kilburg, Arianna Roeder, Alyssa Kilburg, Caitlyn Klein; and Friday only: Kylie Arlen (absent was Callie Recker and Caitlyn Klein) for hosting the “Holiday Traditions of Christmas Tree Decorating” with “Holiday Sing-Along Music” for/with the residents during the afternoon on Thursday.  Mrs. Tracy Weber and her students for assisting and sharing with the residents this camaraderie while making a difference in our lives and within this Holiday Season.

Mrs. Tracy Weber (FBLA advisor at the Bellevue Community High School) with students:  Alexandria Caughron, Alexis McCombie, Taylor DeWitt, Elyse Berendes, Aunika Hager, Alivia Wagner, Cate Dunne, Kendelle Scheckel, Alyssa Wagner, Tayla Leibfried, Olivia Carter, Adyson Ellingson, Rayna Kilburg, Arianna Roeder, Alyssa Kilburg, Caitlyn Klein; and Friday only: Kylie Arlen (absent was Callie Recker and Caitlyn Klein) for hosting the “Holiday Traditions of Christmas”.  Alexandria Caughron (a sophomore at BHS, who started a new FBLA sister club, Interact.) (Interact is the high school version of the Rotary Club with aims to help the community.)  The students created “Mill Valley Christmas Gift and Gather” packages and homemade cards for the residents (at the MVCC) and for the tenants (at the SVAL) to be delivered.  Thanks to the volunteers & students, Alexandria Caughron, Kylie Arlen with Andrea Arlen (parent and staff), who delivered these Christmas gifts at the MVCC, and delivered and handed gifts at the SVAL during the afternoon on Friday.  Thanks for making a difference in the lives of these residents and tenants.  Thanks again to Mrs. Tracy Weber and her students for assisting and sharing with the residents this camaraderie while making a difference in our lives during this Holiday Season.

Laurie Anderson and Janell Daugherty with the Bellevue P.E.O Chapter FL (marks 100 years this local Philanthropic organization was charted in 1920 by Mrs. Grace Young) of Bellevue, Iowa for donating and delivering two fresh greenery swags and a fresh greenery wreath for both the MVCC and the SVAL.  (The Wreath is proudly displayed at the SVAL, and the two swags are proudly displayed in the front pillars of MVCC entrance.

“Santa” for arriving and giving us a glimpse into his workshop just days before Christmas.  Santa’s helpers have been busy preparing for their “midnight delivery” on Christmas Eve.  Thanks to the Bellevue Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC): Carrie Weaver (Executive Director); Board of Directors: Mark Herman (President), Steve Nemmers (Vice President), Brittany Ehlinger (Secretary & Treasurer); Board Members: Toby Giesemann, Dennis Schroeder, Cassie Kirk, and Joslyn Giesemann.  Thanks to all the BACC members and volunteers.  Thanks to all of the Bellevue & Maquoketa area participants, Maquoketa Community Star Program (Wendy Zaruba and Tara Rosenbohm), Ronelle Clark & Laura Westhal (Christmas Star Program, Maquoketa Community Services/Operation New View), the Maquoketa Community; all participating staff at MVCC/SVAL, and all the Anonymous individuals who were generous in reaching out to “grasp a star”, which made a difference in the lives of our residents and tenants this Christmas.
