Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In house Activities have resumed; individualized and very small group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; following the CDC Guidelines, with staff, visitors and volunteers wearing masks and protective eyewear.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service (with “temporary” Pastor John Armstrong) and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Dennis Miller or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the past four weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants Monday – Thursday.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room or at the dining tables at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday, and on Sundays.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past four weeks.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” and/or “Small Group” activities were held with the residents (individualized at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during this past week, as able.

Chef Kevin Herbert (Executive Chef from Healthcare of Iowa – with a background in fine dining and a private Chef for 44 years) for visiting the SVAL and hosting a live cooking demonstration (activity) in front of an involved audience of tenants during the afternoon on Wednesday.  Chef Kevin’s food preparation involved:  bacon corn cakes garnished with sauteed bacon and onion topped with maple syrup, barbecue chicken, fresh pineapple, and cheddar grilled cheese (in honor of National Grilled Cheese Day), peanut butter and banana crepes with chocolate sauce and whipped cream.  Cranberry punch served as a beverage.  (This cooking event with Chef Kevin fits into an activity category of “Community Involvement”, a project focusing on “Community Education”, to both involve and educate the tenants.)

Kelly Pancratc (Speech Therapist) for hosting a talk on “Speech Therapy” and on her recent “Tour of Ireland” with the residents and tenants during the afternoon on Tuesday.  (She passed around photos of Ireland during her talk to the attending audience.)  Missy Wilson (Physical Therapist) and Kelly O’Donnell (Occupational Therapist) for hosting talks on “The Physical and Occupational Therapies” (during the afternoon on Tuesday).  (These guest speaker talks were part of an Activity Project for “Building Community Involvement” with “Community Education”.)  (“Noodle Toss” games with the residents and the therapists followed the talks.)  Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and the Dietary Department for providing cookies, that were colored/decorated (to be either red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or chocolate) and ordered in the shape of a “rainbow” over a “pot of gold”, that were served along with (non-alcoholic) beer (with green food coloring) during the guest speaker talks on Tuesday.  Anne Blitzen (Physical Therapist Assistant) for her assistance in Activities.

Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and the Dietary Department for providing and serving the pancakes individually for/to the tenants and residents during the noontime meal on Friday in honor of “International Pancake Day”.
