Nursing News

Amy Waller, RN

Director of Nursing

I would like to welcome Mill Valley Care Centers new Assistant Director of Nursing, Kim Ernst.  Kim has been a member of our nursing staff since 2016.  Kim will continue with her role as Nurse Manager of our attached Assisted Living Facility, Sunrise Villa, and in addition has also been certified as our facility’s Infection Control Specialist.  Please stop by the facility and welcome Kim!

Kim will play a major role in keeping infection rate and outbreaks low in our facility.  This included making sure all vaccines are updated with resident and family approval.  On admission and then yearly, we review medical records to ensure our residents have received Influenza, Prevnar, and or Pneumovax vaccines.  Each resident and their family then sign a consent form requesting or declining each vaccine.

As a reminder, we will be sending out consent forms for resident Flu Vaccines at the end of August.  Influenza vaccines are offered from October 1st to March 31st.  All staff and residents are offered the vaccine during this period.  This year our facility will be participating in a country wide study on how the flu impacts long term care facilities.  More information on this study will be sent out with the Flu consent forms.  Due to everyone’s hard work and preparation, last year our facility was not affected by Influenza A or B.  Thank-you for helping our residents stay healthy!  Let’s have another flu free year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please stop on by!

Have a safe and healthy summer!
