Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday.

Along with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it is also cold and flu season!  Every day we work hard on keeping our residents safe and healthy, we also need your help with this.  We encourage all family, friends, and volunteers to think twice and possibly postpone a visit if you are experiencing any cold and flu symptoms.  In the past, we have also cancelled daily activities during cold/flu outbreaks in the facility and/or community to protect our residents.  Remember the best way to stay protected is simply washing hands with soap and water.  Hand sanitizer is also very effective.

Although we haven’t been having quite the frigid and snowy weather that we are used to during this winter season, the air is still very dry.  We do allow humidifiers in resident’s rooms.  They have several health benefits including reducing the risk for air borne illnesses, keeping skin soft, and helping the sinuses stay comfortable.  Family is responsible for maintenance for the humidifiers; including cleaning, filling with water, and making sure the humidifier is working properly.  We ask that any cleaning supplies or chemicals used not be kept in the resident’s rooms.  This is for all the residents and staff safety.  If you have a question or would like to bring in a humidifier in for your loved one, please contact me.

Wishing you a happy, and healthy 2020!
