Mill Valley Care Center is dedicated to lower the risk of serious infections for all our residents by offering vaccines to help prevent the flu and many pneumococcal diseases.  On admission and then yearly, we review medical records to ensure our residents have received Influenza, Prevnar, and or Pneumovax vaccines.  Each resident and their family then sign a consent form requesting or declining each vaccine.

Influenza vaccines are offered during the flu season between October to March.  All staff and residents are offered the vaccine during this period.  Letters will be sent out in September for more information on this year’s flu vaccine.

Prevnar and Pneumovax are vaccines that help protect from pneumococcal diseases such as meningitis, bloodstream infections, pneumonia, and ear infections.  Pneumococcal vaccines are not guaranteed to prevent infection and symptoms in all people.  But research shows these vaccines can help prevent severe complication from illness, that without the vaccine may lead to hospitalization or even death.

These vaccines can prevent many illnesses for all ages.  For further information, please talk with your primary physician or stop by the office.
