As of Wednesday (3/11/2020), regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19, Wuhan China Virus) Precautions, we are not allowing any visitors into the facility until further notice.  We are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC 24/7: Saving Lives, Protecting People Guidelines) Precautions.  Activities have been cancelled until further notice, by order of the Director of Nursing, Administrator, Medical Doctor, and the CDC.

We understand and know how difficult this is, but please remember, that we are doing our best to protect the health and well-being of our residents and tenants, your loved ones.  We will keep you posted of any further changes.  Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.  We appreciate your cooperation with this.  Thank You!

In-house Individualized Activities with the residents and tenants resume, as able.  We want to thank all our dedicated staff for caring for all the residents and tenants.  And, we want to thank all our dedicated volunteers, our community, our schools and area churches, who were planning to visit and assist with Activities during the past four weeks.  We look forward to seeing you all again in the future, as God May Bless.

Residents, tenants, and their families were/are encouraged to connect with their loved ones via phone calls and/or video chats that are available all day.

Individualized in-room daily Catholic Services & Rosary prayers were held on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the last four weeks and on Sundays.

Individualized in-room Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on the last four Sundays.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” were held with the residents during the last four weeks.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” were held for the residents at Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the tenants at Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL) during the last four weeks.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents and tenants during the afternoon, Monday – Thursday.

The residents and tenants were treated with ice cream bars/cones, root beer floats, lemonade, cookies, popsicles, and other food treat items (“goodies”) during the various fun activities throughout the last four weeks.

“Card Games” were available with the tenants at the SVAL (using appropriate social distancing and following the CDC Guidelines) during the afternoon on Tuesdays of the last four weeks.

“Remembrance Day of the Residents and Tenants of the Past Year” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on Monday.

“Remembrance Day” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the morning on Monday.

“Veteran’s Day Heart Card” was held with the residents and tenants during the afternoon on Wednesday.  Honoring our own Veteran’s with a special meal and dessert.

“Honoring Our Veterans” was held with the residents and tenants during the morning on Thursday.

“Alzheimer’s Awareness – Game Trivia” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on Tuesday.

“Alzheimer’s Awareness – Learning About the Disease” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the morning on Monday.

“Alzheimer’s Awareness – Craft Purple Ribbons” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on Monday.

“Alzheimer’s Awareness – Bulletin Board” was held by individually visiting “room to room” with the residents and tenants during the afternoon on Monday.

“American Diabetes Month” Recognition was held with the residents and tenants during the morning on Thursday.

Dietary Department staff for hosting the “Happy Hour / Party”, where various food/drink treats/goodies were served for/to the residents/tenants by/while visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on the last four Fridays.

“Treats with Chef Chad” featuring various flavorful drinks/fruits/foods/snacks/treats were held for/with the residents and tenants by/while visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on the last four Mondays.

“What’s Cooking? – Guess Chef’s Meal” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on Monday.

“What’s Cooking? – Warm Cocoa” was held with the residents and tenants by visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on Tuesday.

“What’s Cooking? – Guess Chef’s Brew on this Halloween and Hunter’s Moon Day” was held for the residents and tenants while visiting them individually room-to-room during the afternoon on Saturday.

“Bingo Game Treats/Prizes” was held individually with the residents (using appropriate social distancing and following the CDC Guidelines) during the afternoon on Wednesdays.

Other fun activities with/for the residents included things such as:  “Daily Chronicle”, “What’s Cooking? – Guess Chef’s Fixings”, “Halloween Scrabble Game”, “Boo! Double ‘O’ Game”, “Halloween Crossword”, “Ghoulishly Funny Riddles”, “All Hallow’s Eve”, Happy Halloween Game”, “Alzheimer’s Awareness – Learning About The Disease”, “November EZ Does It Trivia”, “Turkey Day Trivia”, “American Diabetes Month”, “Famous Veterans”, “Remembrance Day Word Search”, “Mixed-up Veteran Day Unscramble Game”, “Veteran’s Day Adult Coloring”, “Remembrance Day – Word Search / Word Quilt”, “Remembrance Day Unscramble”, “Mixed – Thanksgiving Day”, “Celebrating Thanksgiving-Crossword”, “Thank Categories”, “Honor Our Veterans”, Ice Cream Bars, Gatorade Refreshments, “Connecting with the Families” and “Music”; and the residents and tenants were treated with ice cream bars, lemonade, cookies, popsicles, and other food treat items (or “goodies”) throughout the last four weeks.

Kayla Griebel (staff, Universal Worker, volunteer) for assisting Activities, with hosting “Bingo Prizes” held with the tenants at the SVAL by visiting them individually room-to-room (using appropriate social distancing and following the CDC Guidelines) during the afternoon on four Saturdays.

Pastor Shannon Witt (Presbyterian Church, Bellevue, Iowa) with Presbyterian volunteers, Holly Feuling, Holly Gemmell, Kim Moore, and other unnamed volunteers who were kind enough to send out cards with return addresses on them to our residents / tenants, and thereby becoming instant “Pen-Pals” with us.

We thank our military veterans for their military service.  A group picture of our military veterans (appropriately distanced) was taken during the morning on Thursday.  They were wearing their new Veteran tee-shirts emblazoned in the front with the lettering:  “VETERAN – I SALUTE; I Do not Stoop”.  The tee-shirts were made especially for our Veterans by Brittany Knouse (staff) and her Aunt Cheryl Taplin (volunteers).  Many thanks to both Brittany and Cheryl!  Thanks to all the staff involved in making this event happen.

Thanks to all the unnamed individuals who communicated [via letters, phone calls, video chats (FaceTime, Facebook, Skype), outside closed window visits, etc.] with the residents / tenants to help uplift their days.  Thanks to all the residents, tenants, families, friends, school children and teachers, volunteers, staff (Administrative, Nursing, Dietary, Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, and Activity-Recreation Departments), local area (Bellevue, Maquoketa, Preston, Andrew, St. Donatus, Springbrook, etc.) businesses, churches, organizations, and other unnamed individuals for their kindnesses, assistance and support with all our activities / events / donations / cards / posters during the past month.
