Depending upon the Jackson County COVID positivity rate, masks and eyewear are required for all visitors, volunteers, and staff at the Mill Valley Care Center (MVCC) and the Sunrise Villa Assisted Living (SVAL).  This is per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Guidelines, with updates occurring almost daily as of 9/30/2021.  Please call/phone before visiting, as conditions may change.

Thanks to all the families of the residents and tenants for contacting staff regarding their visiting times with their loved ones and following the CDC Guidelines and mask wearing, when “Connecting” with their families during the weekdays and weekends.

In-house Activities have resumed; individualized and very small group Activities with the residents and tenants, and volunteer visits have resumed, as able; following the CDC Guidelines, with staff, visitors and volunteers wearing masks and protective eyewear.

Residents, tenants, and their families are encouraged to connect with loved ones with visits, or via phone calls and/or video chats, that are available throughout the day.

Individualized in-room visits or monthly visits are being scheduled for the Presbyterian Church Service and for the Lutheran Church Service (with Pastor Paul Gammelin) have resumed.  Catholic Church Services (with Pastor Robert Gross or Associate Pastor David Ambrosy) have resumed being held weekly on Wednesday or on the local cable Channel-32 for the Catholics during the past five weeks and on Sundays.

Lutheran Service on local cable Channel-26 was held for the Lutherans on Sundays.

Individualized in-room “Manicures” and/or “Small Group” activities were held with the residents (individualized at the MVCC) and the tenants (at the SVAL) during the past five weeks, as able.

Individualized in-room “Exercises” or “Small Group” were held with the residents during the past five weeks.

“Games” were/are available with the tenants in their own room at the SVAL during the afternoon on Monday through Friday, following the CDC Guidelines and Precautions.

Individualized “Games of Choice” were available for the residents/tenants, Monday – Thursday.

The National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) announced the time for celebrating National Assisted Living Week (NALW) to be (September 11-17, 2022) and revealed that “Joyful Moments” was to be this year’s theme for NALW.  But, due to COVID related precautions, the celebration of NALW at the SVAL was rescheduled to be October 2-8, 2022.  This annual national observance provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and local communities to celebrate the individuals who live and work in assisted living facilities and to learn more about this sector of long-term care.  The week was filled with celebration related activities.

Celebrating NALW with “Joyful Moments” was started by serving the tenants (at the SVAL) an “Omelet Bar Breakfast-Brunch” with a choice of: “Ham, Bacon, Tomatoes, Onions, Peppers, Mushrooms, and Cheese”, all prepared by Chef Kevin Hebert and Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor).  Assisting the Chef and Jill with the tenants were Ashley Stroyan (Nurse Manager), Kayla Griebel (Universal Worker) and Joy Marchiando (Recreation Program Director).  Thanks to all those involved.

Chef Kevin Hebert (Executive Chef from Healthcare of Iowa – with a background in fine dining and private Chef for 44 years) for visiting the MVCC and hosting a live cooking demonstration (activity) in front of an involved audience of residents, tenants, family members, staff, and volunteers during the afternoon on Tuesday.  Chef Kevin’s food preparation involved making and serving: “Monte Cristo Waffle Sandwiches” with powdered sugar, “Chicken Alfredo Quesadillas”, and “Mini Key Lime Pies”.  Jill Huling (Dietary Supervisor) and Karen Parramore (Dietary staff), Nursing staff, Theresa Schwager (Environmental Services Supervisor), Joy Marchiando (Recreation Program Director), all the involved staff, and Patty Reynolds (Administrator) for all their assistance in making this event possible on Tuesday afternoon.  (This cooking event with Chef Kevin fits into an activity category of “Community Involvement”, a project focusing on “Community Education” – involving and educating the residents and tenants.)

Kelly O’Donnell (Occupational Therapist), Missy Wilson (Physical Therapist), and Kelly Pancratz (Speech Therapist) for creating some exciting Activities featuring the theme:  “Autumn Festival – Because This is a No Fall Zone”, hosting a variety of games focused on physical conditioning, body coordination, balancing, and strengthening for the residents at the MVCC during the afternoon on Thursday, October 20, 2022.  Ashley Stroyan (RN, SVAL) for assisting/participating in this event.  (National Physical Therapy Month is celebrated every October to raise awareness with consumers about the many benefits of physical therapy.)
